Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE)The Ilitha Group is a merit-based, equal opportunity employer and is also committed to achieving South African national demographic employment content goals through the development and empowerment of previously disadvantaged South Africans. Over the years, Ilitha has actively transformed its Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) profile to be in line with South African government charters and, specifically, the DTI Codes of Practice.
Ilitha’s BBBEE policies and status within the South Africa region:
- We strive to achieve a shareholding profile which is in line with the demographic profile of the country.
- Our goal is for our Management and Employee Profile to match the South African economically active demographic profile.
- Our New Ventures Group is actively involved in developing new grass roots projects and structuring these Projects for BBBEE involvement. Ilitha takes an active commercial and technical lead on these projects. (refer to project development and finance)
- In the vital field of Education and Mentorship, the company has a broad based approach which encompasses both internal and external training and mentorship. This is done in partnership with some of our major clients or on a project by project basis.
- Where BBBEE professionals or companies require technical assistance and support, Ilitha has a policy of supporting them in BBBEE Joint Ventures, making available Ilitha’s skilled experienced resources to support the project, with written targets of understudying, mentorship and skills transfer.
- We have embarked on a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSI) program, with a significant slice of our profit being donated to historically disadvantaged charitable causes.
- Ilitha’s strives to employ black professionals and companies as far as possible both during the development of projects, as well as for the ongoing operation of our companies. Our Preferential Procurement policy ensures that, within the applicable Ilitha subsidiaries, we strive to place a minimum of 25.1% of procurement expenditure with BBBEE suppliers (refer to Project Management and Execution).
- Ilitha is committed to providing meaningful roles for small, disadvantaged, and BBBEE-owned small businesses within our projects. Our record of performance in Subcontracting to BBBEE businesses reflects our company's values and our efforts to foster their development and participation in our projects. We have extensive experience in qualifying, managing and contracting with these businesses in technical areas such as engineering and construction.
Corporate Social Investment (CSI)
Our purpose as a business is to produce sustainable profits. Our role as corporate citizens is to support sound community development initiatives.
In line with our policy for Corporate Social Responsibility, Ilitha has been involved in targeted community service projects. One of our investments programs is to provide monthly donations to the Children’s Hospital Trust, the official fundraising arm of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.
The Children’s Hospital Trust has been proudly assisting the Hospital for more than a decade to upgrade and maintain its buildings and equipment and to develop its professional staff. The Trust is a non-profit organisation that relies on the benevolence of donors to realise its aims and objectives. It enjoys a record of sound financial administration and good governance, but whilst it has raised funds to address many pressing needs, much has yet to be done.
Ilitha believes that the work that the Children’s Hospital Trust is doing is truly amazing and we are honoured to be able to continue to assist the Hospital and its patients in some small way.
