One of the main sources of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) in industry today is emissions from storage tanks. In particular, there are many cases where fixed roof tanks are used to store liquids that are volatile in nature and may emit harmful organics (such as benzene) or even odourous compounds. Reducing emissions from these tanks is often a difficult exercise, particularly when tanks cannot be removed from service for any lengthy period of time to allow for the installation of internal floating roofs as a retrofit solution. Scion’s Evapostop discs are an innovative and simple solution which can quickly be installed in tanks, with minimum tank modification requirements. Evapostop discs are elipsoidal hollow discs with flat collars (Saturnian rings), which float on the surface of the liquid to form a barrier, thus reducing Evaporative losses from tanks. The discs have a uniquely designed geometry, ensuring that they maximise the surface coverage of the liquid at all times, achieving 99.6% coverage. The discs reduce VOC emissions from tanks by between 85% and 90%. |
